Details:

Join us for a fun day of coding to make our community better!  Select from a list of challenges from government, non-profits, and community organizations.  These are real challenges with real-world impact.  You can also bring your own idea to make our community better!

This hackathon is focused on collaboration where each team will work on a different challenge.  At the end of the day, each team will be asked to present and give a live demo of their work.

 

Itinerary:

8am - 8:30: Breakfast

8:30 - 8:45: Introductory Remarks

8:45 - 9:15: Each challenge owner will present for up to 5 minutes on their challenge

9:15 - 10:00: Each challenge owner will answer questions from participants

10:00 - 4:00: Teams work on challenges

4:00 - 4:30: Work on presentation and submit results

4:30 - 5:00: Presentations and live demos

5:00 - 5:30: Prizes

 

FAQ:

  • Does it cost money to attend or win prizes?
    • The hackathon is free to attend.
  • How am I eligible to win a prize?
    • You have to attend the hackathon, work on a challenge, submit a presentation, and present your solution.  (If you have an employer that restricts “gifts”, then you’ll have to double check with your employer’s policies)
  • What types of challenges will there be?
    • Some of the challenges that people worked on last year were: calculate population per neighborhood, create AI to detect 311 issue from an image, create 311 app for cyclists, and create JSON API of Bus Locations.
  • Can I have a team of one?
    • Yes!  There are no requirements on team size.
  • Do I own the code I write?
    • Scenic City Summit neither owns the code you write nor asserts any rights over it.  You may choose to open-source the code by standing up your own repo or contributing to https://github.com/openchattanooga, but you are not required to do so.
  • What is required to be a challenge owner?
    • Your challenge must be about making our community better and someone representing the challenge must attend from 8:30 to 10:00am to present the challenge and answer questions from the participants.  Are are invited to attend the presentations and awards as well as attend the rest of the day, but it is not required.
  • How can I submit my ideas for a challenge?
